WHWN Presents Rookie Reporting: Breaking Into Freelance Writing

CityLit Project's popular "Write Here, Write Now" workshops makes its debut in Howard County with a six-session workshop on freelance writing. Led by instructor Laura Shovan at the Howard County Center for the Arts.

Dreaming of charging $1 a word for articles and working at home in your pajamas? You'll have to earn your "clips" if you want to lead the glamorous life of a successful freelance writer. This workshop covers how to break into freelancing. Writers will generate articles and essays for local and specialty markets. Each writer will take an idea from initial research to publication-ready story. Along the way, you'll learn about writing leads, conducting interviews, pitching a story, and creating a compelling read.

6 Thursdays from 7-8:30pm, October 16- November 20, 2008, Howard County Center for the Arts, 8510 High Ridge Road, Ellicott City, MD 21043. (410) 313-ARTS (2787). Registration Fee: $125; Walk-up registration available on October 16!
